Tracy A. Sykes
Mr. Sykes is the Managing Counsel for Brigham and Women’s Hospital (www.brighamandwomens.org), a Harvard Medical School
teaching affiliate and one of the top rated hospitals in the U.S. As Managing Counsel, Tracy is responsible for
supervising the Brigham’s legal, compliance and governance requirements. Tracy also serves as Senior Counsel at
Partners HealthCare (www.partners.org), which is an $11 billion/year health care system founded by the Brigham with
Massachusetts General Hospital in 1994. Tracy’s role with Partners is to provide strategic and legal advice relating to
technology development, equity transactions and business operations. Tracy’s practice focuses on high-value projects
related to hospital-industry collaborations to commercialize diagnostic, therapeutic and quality of care innovations
created within the academic medical center. Since joining Partners, Tracy has helped to launch over 25 new technology
companies and overseen investments in each by the Brigham and Massachusetts General Hospital.
Mr. Sykes brings more than 25 years of professional experience to the Brigham and Partners. Previously, he served as V.P. and General Counsel of two, successive technology start-up companies, one of which was acquired by DuPont. Before joining the ranks of early-stage companies, Tracy was an equity partner with the national law firm of Robins, Kaplan, LLC. While there, he represented large and small businesses on diverse matters, focusing primarily on commercial transactions and disputes, intellectual property, regulatory matters and employment law.
Mr. Sykes has served on the Board of Directors for private corporations, and in a variety of capacities for state bar associations in Massachusetts, Minnesota and Washington, D.C.
Mr. Sykes earned his J.D. from Boston University School of Law (with honors) and a B.A. (magna) in economics from the University of Wisconsin.
